White, yellow, orange belts

Individual kata: (base score 6.0) Always make sure both competitors are sure of kata requested. White belts only know heian shodan, so if there is a white belt competing against an orange belt, the kata called will be heian shodan.Team and individual kata:If there is a tie, the same kata can be performed.   Individual kumite: (no ties)One step basic sparring (jodan and chudan) - 2 attacks of each, starting with left foot forward, followed by right foot forward. In the case of a tie, start with right foot forward, followed by left.Absolutely “no” contact allowed to face area on counter attack. This will result in a warning, or disqualification.One counter-attack has to be different. If not, this will be a basis for disqualification.

Green and purple belts

In the case of a tie, repeat with right foot forward.Absolutely “no” contact allowed to face area on counter attack. ** there will be “no” faking attack ** opponent will be warned once, upon second violation, will be disqualified.

Brown belts

Individual kata: (base score 6.0) Always make sure both competitors are sure of kata requested.If there is a tie, they must perform a different kata.   Individual kumite: (no ties)Jiyu-ippon (semi-free) sparring (jodan, chudan, mae geri, kekomi) - 1 of each, beginning with left foot forward. In the case of a tie, repeat with right foot forward.Absolutely “no” contact allowed to face area on counter attack. This will result in a warning, or disqualification.One counter-attack has to be different. If not, this will be a basis for disqualification.

Finalists (last two or four competitors) will compete by jiyu kumite (free sparring). Mouth guards and hand protectors must be used.

Black belts

Individual kata: (base score 7.0) Elimination rounds for juniors will comprise of shite kata (exclusively). Elimination round for adults will comprise of shite and sentei kata. Finals can be any kata of choice.Team and individual kata:If there is a tie, they must perform a different kata.   Individual kumite: Shobu ippon (free) sparring. In the case of a tie during the elimination round, an extention of the match will result in sudden death (saki-dori ippon). In the final match, in the case of a tie, the first extention will be sai-shiai (a full two minute extension). If still a tie, then sudden death will apply.Mouth guards and hand protectors must be used.
